Coire

Coire is a common Suisse of the canton of the Grisons, located in the District of Plessur.

Coire (in Romanche Will cook , in Italian Coira , in German Chur ), is a city Suisse, capital of the canton of the Grisons.

Geography

The town of Coire is located in the valley of the Rhine, at the point of meeting of the Latin and Germanic influences.

It was built, slightly with the variation of the river, on an alluvial cone generated by a tributary torrent of Plessur.

History

The attested establishment oldest goes back to the Neolithic era, towards 2500 av. J. - C. With its a few 5000 years of age, Coire is thus the oldest city of Switzerland.

At the time Roman Coire became the chief town of the Rhétie Première. At the end of IVe century, Coire sheltered one évêché. To the Life century, the Rhétie passed to the Empire Francs. Under Charlemagne, towards 800, Coire rhetic became part of the Holy roman Empire. With the arrival of the Walser, the Germanic language made its appearance in an area up to that point Rhéto-roman E.

The history of Coire is then related to that of the canton of the Grisons, whose city became the chief town while entering the Confédération.

The city experienced a significant development with the installation of the Alpine collars and construction of the railroad.

The station CF of Coire is also the departure of the road cyclist main road called Route of the Grisons which leads to Bellinzone.
