Coiner
One names minting a device, used in the Vending machines, charged with checking if a part is in conformity with a given value. The most recent models generally accept a whole series of parts and sort each one according to its value.
Principle
The elements making it possible to sort a part are not very numerous. One can quote:- its Diameter and its thickness, which can test with Gabarit S
- its Poids, which can test with a small device with spring
- its electric conductivity
Generations
- the first coiners (Flipper S, for example) accepted only one type of parts, which was for a long time that of 20 old francs, then that of 20 centimes after 1960. Thereafter, the cost of the parts followed the purchasing power of the customers.
- the coiners multipièces were to have system of a simple and reliable calculation to add up the amounts, and to possibly calculate the currency to be returned. The first Microprocesseur used for this purpose was the National Semiconductors SC/MP also called " Scamp " whose instructions worked directly into decimal.
The acceptors should be distinguished:
- which evaluates the part that one gives them and communicates the credit with the Vending machine.
- equipped with an acceptor and one or more tubes of storage of the parts. They make it possible to return the currency when an introduced coin exceeds the selling price of the article.
The communication between the coiner and the distributer is carried out according to various protocols:
The EXECUTIVE or protocol has a protocol series developed by group MEI (Mars Electronics International). It accounts for 95% of the French park. It with the advantage of being a stable protocol since several year. The advantage is to let to the coiner manage the case according to the practices of the customer and optimize returned.
The MDB ( multi dual bus ) developed thanks to NAMA EVA and last EVMMA born from the protocols and in strong growth. The MDB allows per hour when electronics spreads to compensate the intelligence of the coiner by that of the distributer there associated. Indeed the modern vending machines all are equipped with chips and powerful firmwares. It has the great disadvantage of evolving/moving permanently. 3 versions exist on the market, MDB1.0 MDB2.0 and MDB3.0, according to the manufacturers of machines, of the instructions which they have need, and of the year of construction of the vending machine, which does not make them always compatible with the systems of payment. Each new peripheral requires a Mise up to date of the firmware of the vending machine. The simple management of the electronic money obliges the manager has to regularly have to fill the coiners.
The BDV a protocol having strong resemblance to the MDB uses mainly in Germany.
