Cohors-Asturies
Cohors-Asturies is a founded network of Résistance in 1942 by Christian Pineau and Jean Cavaillès.
History
Cohors was created in April 1942 at the instigation of the central Bureau of information and action (B.C.R.A) organized with London by the Général de Gaulle. Its realization was entrusted by its chief Passy (Colonel André Dewavrin) in Christian Pineau in March - April 1942 at the time of the stay of this one in London. Pineau taken the direction of that which would function in southern zone, Phalanx and entrusted the organization in zone occupied to Jean Cavaillès, member of the management committee of the movement Libération. The connection between the two organizations is ensured by Rémy of the Confrérie Notre-Dame and Jean Moulin. In February 1943, Cohors becomes completely autonomous: the voyage of Jean Cavaillès to London enables him to obtain a specific budget in order to maintain the operations secret.Initially network of information organized with Paris and in Ile-de-France, it extends very quickly towards north until in Belgium, the south, Narbonne, Toulouse, Marseilles and even Nice and towards the west, Brittany and Normandy in particular. Cohors deploys actions of sabotage as from 1943. Cavaillès entrusts to its assistant Jean Gosset the new immediate Action section, envisaged for this purpose. The activities are stopped by the arrest of Jean Cavaillès on August 28th, 1943. They begin again with the end of the year whereas Jean Gosset took the head of the network. The network changes name then, and is called from now on Asturies. Whereas Cohors was very centralized, Asturies is regionalized, however that the activities of information and action are distributed in two distinct branches. This reorganization still increases the effectiveness. April 24th, 1944, Jean Gosset is stopped. After a short interim of Daniel Appert, it is Albert Guerville which assumes the last months of activity before the Release. For Passy and Jacques Soustelle, Cohors-Asturies one of the most important networks was founded by the BCRA of London. Their principal letter-box was the workshop of the sculptor Rene Iché with the 55 Rue of Seek-Midday in Paris.
