Cohennoz

Cohennoz is a common French, located in the department of the Savoy and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Its inhabitants is called the Cohennerains .

Geography

Cohennoz (fpvl Coënn ) is a commune of the Savoy located on the heights of left bank of the Arly, opposite the solid mass of the Aravis, with the foot of the Mont Bisanne.

The chief town of the commune is in fact a hamlet made up of some houses. Because of the tourist development, the hamlet of Cernix, located side of Crest-Voland became much more built than the chief town itself, thus making of Cohennoz an atypical commune.

History

Commune detached in year VI of the commune of Héry-on Ugine, located on the versan opposed throats of the Arly. Ironically, Héry-on Ugine lost thereafter its quality of commune while being attached to Ugine, but Cohennoz is remained independent.

The name of the commune probably comes from a former owner, Cuenoz (orthography attested in XVIe century).
