Cogolin

Cogolin is a common French, located in the department of the Var and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure; between Saint-Tropez and Holy-Maxime .

It comprises surroundings 11.000 inhabitants, and enjoys the soft climate the winter and heat the summer. The commune stretched on all the valley, to the sea. It has several schools and a college. A city where the sport is accessible to all, the activities are numerous: veil, foot (the city has its team), horsemanship… The day before city reflects the life in a village of Provence. This small town is known for its pipes of artisanal manufacture.

The commune of Cogolin east one of the rare communes of the coast to be extended from the ground (the village is with the foot of the Solid mass of the Moors) to the sea (with its two marinas: navy of Cogolin and Port Cogolin). The village is located at approximately 6km beaches.

History

Its name comes from a legend related to Saint-Tropez. The Torpes Saint was killed in Italy and put on a boat with a dog and a cock. The boat accosted on the banks tropéziennes (from where the name of the balneal city) and the cock went to settle in a field of flax a few kilometres from there. The cock with the flax gave Cogolin.

Culture

Cogolin is universally known by two of its many knowledge to make. On the one hand, with the manufacture of the pipes, cut, scultées in the heather of the Solid mass of the Moors. The factory of pipes, family home, is one of oldest in the world. In addition, thanks to the Manufacture of carpet, where the carpets and tapestries are still " fact main". More the beautiful pieces were designed for the Normandy steamer, but still for the White House or the Elysium.

Administration

The current mayor is Mr Jacques SENEQUIER. It is its second mandate.
