Cogidubnus
Tiberius Claudius Cogidubnus (or Togidubnus , or Togidumnus ) was the king of the Regnenses, people of the island of Brittany in Ier century, after the Roman invasion of the island in 43, as notes it Tacite in the Vie of Agricola .
Chichester and the Roman villa close to Fishbourne, which was the palaos of Cogidubnus , was on the territory of the Atrebates before the Roman conquest. Cogidubnus was perhaps thus the heir to Verica, the king of Atrebates whose fall was the pretext of the invasion. Thereafter these grounds belonged to the field of Regnenses, on which Cogidubnus reigned probably before. The public baths, the amphitheater and the forum of Silchester had to be built at the time of Cogidubnus.
An inscription
One generally places his capital with Noviomagus , current Chichester, where one keeps one of the inscriptions mentioning it:

It is about a furnace bridge with Neptune and Minerve for the safety of the Imperial House, and whose construction was ordered by Cogidubnus and was carried out by the college of the fabrores .
Its name, its life
The name Cogidubnus is Breton, but Tiberius Claudius indicates that it accepted the Roman citizenship of the emperor Claude Ier, that is to say starting from 41. This passage to Rome can be put in connection with that of Verica, king atrébate exiled in Rome after the conquest of its kingdom, perhaps by Caratacus. Its kingdom-customer could extend from Noviomagus until Calleva Atrebatum , current Silchester, in north, and last until the Eighties. After this date, the territory was completely integrated by it into the Roman Empire.
