Coenzyme Q10

What CoQ10?

The Coenzyme Q10 (figure 1, with n=10), also known under the name of CoQ10 or Ubiquinone, is a substance similar to a Vitamine, which is vital for the good performance of the human body. In its pure form, CoQ10 is an orange yellow crystalline powder, without taste nor odor. It is partly absorbed with our Nourriture, but is also produced in the body itself. CoQ10 is naturally present in all the human cells and ensures the production of body energy. The energy provided by the food is transformed into body energy in the Mitochondries, using CoQ10. It is only following this transformation that the energy contained in food can be used by the human body. 95% of all the body requirements in energy are transformed using CoQ10. It is consequently obvious that the Organes requiring the most energy - such as the Cœur, the Poumons and the Foie - also have the highest rates of CoQ10. CoQ10 is very important for the human organism and can be replaced by no other substance.

CoQ10 freely diffuses in the lipidic Bicouche because it is about a Benzoquinone which is soluble in the lipids with a long chain Isoprénoïde.

The history of CoQ10

CoQ10 was discovered there is more than 40 years. For several years now, this vital substance has been known and appreciated like essential supplement.

Why CoQ10 is so important?

Following his discovery of the significant part played by CoQ10 in the energy production, the British scientist Peter Mitchell accepted the Nobel Prize of Chemistry in 1978. CoQ10 intervenes indeed in the respiratory Chaîne, which ensures the energy production usable by the cell in the form of ATP. It is an intermediary which with the capacity to cycle between an oxidized form and a reduced form, and thus to transfer from the electrons of an enzymatic complex to the other (of NADH-déshydrogénase to the cytochrome-réductase). Moreover, CoQ10, from its Antioxydant role of , protects our cells against the destructive effects of the free radicals.

Of interest for the sportsmen, it was shown that if one increases by food supplement the contribution of CoQ10 from 60 to 100 mg/jour for 4 to 8 weeks, the capacity with the exercise is increased. The FC is improved among cardic patients, the lipidic metabolism is more effective and VO2max and time with the effort on travelator. What causes a lack of CoQ10?

The reduction of the rate of CoQ10 is related to ageing, such as the extreme physical effort, the Stress, an increased consumption of alcohol and tobacco, just as at the time of specific diseases. Certain drugs reducing the rate of Cholestérol (called „Statines”) also slow down the natural production of CoQ10 in the body.

How to increase the quantity of CoQ10?

Our Alimentation provides us a daily contribution from approximately three to ten milligrams of this Coenzyme. However, it may be that a normal mode is not enough to meet the body requirements in CoQ10. When our requirement in CoQ10 increases, a food Complément can contribute to avoid a lack. The majority of the experts recommend between 30 and 200 Mg of CoQ10 in complement per day and adult.

The manufacture of CoQ10

Three different methods are implemented for manufacture of CoQ10: the Fermentation of yeast, the bacterial Fermentation and the chemical Synthesis. The process of yeast fermentation results in CoQ10 with the configuration all Trans, which means that it is identical to CoQ10 Naturel which one finds in the Viande, the Poisson and other products.

The Sécurité of the Fermentation of yeast was confirmed by various safety studies carried out by one of the most famous laboratories of control in the world (Covance Laboratories Inc.). Moreover, one test Randomized as a double blind man with control Placebo, (a typical protocol with the drug company) showed that the yeast fermentation sure and is well tolerated up to 900 milligrams per day.

CoQ10 produced by chemical Synthèse also generates the isomer Cis (a configuration of the structure Moléculaire which one does not find in natural CoQ10).
