Coefficient of bearing pressure

Coefficient of bearing pressure (vertical) or " Cz"

In mechanics of the fluids, it is a figure without dimension which quantifies the capacity of bearing pressure of a surface.

It is the relationship between the force of Fz bearing pressure and the product of the dynamic pressure Q by surface S:

Cz = Fz/(Q. S)

with Fz in Newton and Q = 1/2. rho. V2
with rho = density of the fluid in kg/m3 and V = rate of travel in m/s
with S: Surface of reference (surface projected in plan X there for a wing)

Values of Cz

  • in aerodynamics, Cz of a Aile is approximately 0.2 to 0.7 in flight, and can reach 2.3 to 2.7 with the high-lift systems (nozzles, shutters with slit) of the airliners.
Cz of a delta wing (Harmony) does not exceed the unit.
  • in hydrodynamics, Cz of Foil (immersed foil) is approximately 0.3 to 0.7 with cruising speed.

Coefficient of side bearing pressure or " Cy"

It is the relationship between the force of Fy bearing pressure and the product of the dynamic pressure Q by surface S:

Cy = Fy/(Q. S)
with S: Surface of reference (surface projected in the x-z plan for a fuselage)
