Codicil

codicil A codicil is a document which amends, rather than it does not replace, a will previously written. The amendments made by codicil can only add or revoke testamentary provisions of limited range. Each codicil must satisfy legal requirements identical to that of the original will, i.e. to comprise the original signature of the Testateur, and not involved witnesses.

According to the extent of the modifications which the document makes, the codicil could be interpreted like a new will. However, it is supposed to be a codicil. A careful testator would avoid this problem by clearly qualifying the second document of codicil.

Only the other solution to reform a will is to cancel it to create new.
