Code list countries used by NATO
Here the code list countries used by NATO . As the work given in reference indicates it, they are not the countries members of NATO but of abbreviations relating to all the existing countries and that the forces of NATO must use in their communications.
To the seventh edition, they were codes of two letters. The eighth edition passes to three letters in order to solve the conflicts with the standard ISO 3166-1, which it adopts with only one exception: for diplomatic reasons, Macedonia continues to be indicated as being the “Yugoslav ex-republic of Macedonia” and receives a code different from the ISO.
