Code consumption

In French Right, the Code of consumption is the code which gathers the legislative measures relating to the Droit of the consumption, which is a subset of the Droit of the businesses.

In France, the code of consumption originates in a law of 1978.

Contents of the code of consumption

In France, the code of consumption is composed of five books:

  • Ier Book: information of the consumers and formation of the contracts
  • Book II: conformity and safety of the products and the services
  • Book III: debt,
  • Book IV: consumers' associations,
  • Book V: institutions.

The code of consumption begins well with the general obligation of information of the salesman of a or a service (delivers Ier, Ier title, Ier chapter).

  • the cooperative society of consumption,
  • the National institute of Consumption (in France),
  • the Test laboratory,
  • Organizations of credit,
  • Commission of over-indebtedness of the private individuals,
  • Commission of the safety of the consumers.
  • Authorities qualified to carry out surveys, as examples:
    • agents of the head office of competition,
    • judiciary police officers,
    • engineers of the agricultural work,
    • technicians of the ministry for agriculture,
    • appointed and technicians medical,
    • engineers and technicians in charge of the protection of the plants,
    • doctors and pharmacists inspectors of public health,
    • veterinary inspectors,
    • agents of the DRIRE and specialized in metrology, etc
