The cod (or cod ) is the common noun of the Poisson S of several species of the order of the Gadiformes. These fish live in cool water. Previously popular and scorned, it is present today on the chart of many restaurants. Fishing in excess is at the origin of its rarefaction.
Much S had been put peel-mixes in this, but the scientists from now on distributed them in a more rational way in other kinds of the family of the Gadidae.
Thus, one recognizes today only three species in the kind Gadus:

Being given the popularity of this Poisson and the decline of its populations, the industry of the fishing considered it useful to give this name to other species which are in the southern hemisphere and which can cook same manner.
As regards fishing, one will note that the name “Cabillaud” can be held with cods of ripe age, whereas the term “cod” is employed preferably for the youthful individuals.
In term of gastronomy “cod” gets busy to indicate the Poisson fresh or frozen in opposition to “cod” which applies to the Poisson dried and salted (on this subject, to consult the article “Conservation of the food”). One henceforth finds name “cod fraiche”, because the term “cod” returns to a too common or industrial fish.

The Cod-liver oil extracted the Foie is considered to contribute with the growth and the intellectual development of the children, even if the latter do not appreciate it for its taste. It is particularly rich in essential fatty-acids Omega-3. It is also traditionally recommended in the event of Ostéoporose or of Fracture.
In a familiar register of language, the term “cod” also indicates a prostitute. It is sometimes also simply used to indicate a Femme, vulgarly and with scorn.
