Coconut of Paimpol

the coconut of Paimpol is a variety of Haricot profiting since 1998 from a Appellation from controlled origin.

History

The bean is cultivated in Brittany since the XVIIIe century but 1928 should be awaited so that a sailor of the name of Alban brings back seeds of coconut and the plant in his grounds of the Goëlo. During the Second world war, it makes it possible to the inhabitants to feed whereas the area knows a serious period of shortage. Since this date, the production forever ceased growing and reached nearly 15.000 tons in 2006.

Description

The coconut of Paimpol is a “medium dry” bean easily recognizable with its yellow dress straw and its small marblings violets. Its culinary qualities justified the attribution of the first Appellation of controlled origin decreed with a fresh vegetable, in 1998.
