Geography

The locality is located in the valley of the Rosselle, to 7 km in the south-west of Forbach, with the foot of the hill of Hérapel which culminates with 330 meters.

History

Cocheren, frontier village native of the Moselle region, fact part of the canton of Forbach since 1790. On Right Bank of Rosselle, Cocheren-village, with the so old past, where the men had already chosen to live there is more than two thousand years…

On left bank, the City Beautiful-Rock, so young still, which was born forty years ago hardly, on the grounds of the old field of Ditschviller…

The city is located on both sides Rosselle river at the foot of the Gallo-Roman site of Hérapel. A few years ago were found traces of civilization Celte. The archaeological vestiges found on the site of Hérapel are dispersed in various French museums (Sarreguemines and Metz) and German, the great excavations having taken place before the First World War and under German administration of 1871 to 1914.
