Martian Chroniques ( The Martian Chronicles ) is a Romance of Science-fiction, written in 1950 by Ray Bradbury (the United States).

This book was the object, in 1980, of a televisual adaptation of the same name.

Summary runs

The fictitious history of a civilization which fights effectively for its spiritual survival by culture, seduction, historical empathy, and psychic illusions vis-a-vis the invasion physical, materialist, concrete, of land carried by their atomic rockets.

Ultimement, after their eradications, the memory, architectures of the dead cities and the texts imposing will fascinate, “will contaminate”, haunt the land ones, of which some made a volte avenger face, towards their own brutal civilization and guerriere: “All the Martians did not die! I am the last of the Martians! ” a little as in Dance with the wolves with the military colonist isolated fascinated by the culture from the Amerindians, or in symmetry, the extraterrestrial invaders of Robotech vis-a-vis the land culture. Following an accident of the terrestrial history, Mars will become again a desert, and an haven of peace, for those which seek insulation, the escape of the terrestrial brutality of civilization.

Science fiction? One more precisely classifies it in the oneiric kind, melancholic person.

Memories of the first chapter:

“The children with the eyes of liquid gold sang unknown airs… like another planet, the women with the crystal fingers made absurd dreams”

The first rocket:

“This night, I révé that a man of the ground, with the blue eyes, liked me and carried me in its rocket. ” “Of the inhabitants of the Earth! you dreams of anything cherished, our scientists know that there is too much oxygen well. ”

“It looked it with a suspicious air…”

“I leave to drive out. ” One heard seven shots. When it returned, his wife sanglotait…

The second rocket: “We succeeded, we succeeded! ” “And it is inhabited! ”

Meet with a child Martian: “we come from the Earth! ” “Yes Sir, I must go there now” To sound with a door, “we come from the Earth! ” “I do not have time, I have much household to make, see with my husband. ” “Darling, I already explained you that I do not like to be disturbed when I am in my office” “But you do not include/understand, it is important, we come from the ground! ”

They will finish in a psychiatric hospital, with those which were claimed originating in various extra-Martian planets… But in spite of their euthanasia, their rocket did not disappear… The psychiatrist committed suicide, to avoid the contagion of the hallucinatory mental disease to his fellow-citizens…

One follows the adventures of the succession of the layers of migrants, limbs paradise or hallucinatory hells offered to the following newcomers, because the Martians are what we want, wish, or fear, terrestrial microbes mortals for the solitary Martians, pioneers growers of trees with oxygen, oppressed masses fleeing slavery, young tradesmen avid of easy money or old men of expatriations and rest, adopting small Martians resembling perfectly their children in their memories, and killing them by technical excess of requirements of affection, ignoramus of their any power of sensitivity, priests evangelists with the attack of the very last Martians, road Martians and terrestrial who will cross since parallel universes, normative policies, artists psychopathes escaped avengers of Fahrenheit 451 aggravated to see reproducing over Mars the history of the Earth, and ultimement, in loop, after a terrestrial nuclear Great War which mobilized and pointed out all the land ones (which stupidity!), few survivors, deserters, of the terrestrial nuclear war, and the remainders of more or less spiritual automats of terrestrial origin, in their turn taking part in environment funeral, melancholic person, oneiric.

“Where are the Martians, Papa? You had promised to us that there would be Martians? ” “Looks at, in the channel. ” “The Martians were there. They disfigured them, and those returned their glance to them, lengthily. ”

A film on the Martian Chroniques should leave from here 2008 - 2009 by the studio Universal Pictures.
