The department of the Coast-D' Gold (21) is a department French in the area of the Burgundy.
History

The department of the Coast-D' Gold was creates on March 4th, 1790 by the constituent Assembly starting from the old province of Burgundy. Province on which the department was always closely dependant.
Origin of the name
Coast-in Or not to be baptized according to a geographical criterion strictly speaking is the only French department. The name was chosen by Andre-Rémy Arnoult, lawyer at the Parliament of Dijon and deputy of the Assemblée of 1790, which proposed this name, taking as a starting point the gilded color which the vines took coast beaunoise with the autumn (coast which it even taken thereafter the name of Côte of Gold). This name holds then only of poetry. He was preferred by the Parliament with others such as the High-Seine or the Seine-and-Saone .
Geography

Coast-in Or belongs to the area Burgundy. It is bordering on the departments of the Yonne, of the Nievre, Saône-et-Loire, the the Jura, the Haute-Saône, the Aube and the Haute-Marne.
Cours d' water
The Gold Coast is located on the threshold of Burgundy, dividing the basins slopes of the the Seine, the the Rhone (of the the Saone) and of the the Loire. On the department affluents of each river run, in particular:
- the Armançon and the Paddle which run towards the Seine, which itself takes its source in the department, on the Plateau of Langres to the Saint-Germain-Source-Seine;
- the Arroux which takes its source in the south of the department and which joined the Loire thereafter;
- the the Saone, the tributary main thing of the the Rhone which crosses a good part of the east of the department while crossing inter alia Auxonne, Saint-Jean-with-Losne or Seurre. The Ouche, affluent of the Saone, is undoubtedly the emblématique river of the department, crossing Dijon in particular.
Topography
Coast-in Or is divided into 4 great geographical units, the Morvan in south-west, the Plateau of Langres in north, the plain of the the Saone in the east and the Auxois - Châtillonais in the North-West.
The culminating point of the department, 723 m (Mount of Gien) is in Morvan, in the enclave of Ménessaire whereas the point low 174 m is at the exit of the Saone.

The climate of Coast-in Or, Climate with continental tendency, faded in its different left and presents several facies then like:
- the valley of Sâone, which is with continental tendency Côte of Gold
- the Morvan or on the tops of the Coasts, where one finds more one climate of medium mountains
- the Plateau of Langres where the winters are long, cold with very often frosts
Generally, the summers can be hot and dry, as for the winters, they are generally cold and wet with frequent falls of Neige.

The department is classified in the average French departments for its population (50e on 100), but because of its surface, its density is low (56 hab/km ²) at the national level (63e)
In spite of the depopulation of rural environments, constituting most of the department, the relative demographic dynamism of Dijon makes it possible the population of the department to grow with each census and to exceed them: 500000 inhabitants.
