Coalition of the Lefts

The group of the Coalition of the Lefts was a political group of the the European Parliament between 1989 and 1994 and which gathered European Communists primarily French, Portuguese and Greek.

It counted 14 deputies. This group was competitor group for the European Unified left which included/understood the Italian Communists and Spanish in majority.

These two groups are the successors of the Communist and Allies Group which existed in the European Parliament of 1979 with 1989.

The July 19th 1994, they amalgamated to create the confederal group of the European Unified left - Scandinavian green Left (GUE/GVN).
