Cluse
A cluse is a form of the Jurassic Relief. It is about a valley dug perpendicularly in a mount by a river, putting thus up to date its structure in Anticlinal by creating a throat or a procession framed by Falaise S. Certaines cluses, widened by the passage of a Glacier at the time of the Glaciation S, reached sizes being able to reach ten kilometers of width. It is the case of the cluse of Voreppe in Isere which marks the entry of the valley of Grenoble between the solid masses of the Vercors and of the Chartreuse or that of Annecy between the Semnoz and the Mont Veyrier.
A cluse generally makes it possible to pass from a valley to another without having to borrow a collar.
The cluses meet only in solid masses of the Jurassic type (the Jura, Préalpes) because this type of solid masses slightly folded and composed in majority of rocks limestones are suitable for form cluses under the effect of the erosion.
Creating natural ways of communication, the cluses allowed creation of villages or cities their outlets or in difficult to reach valleys by other ways. Some of these cities or villages bear a name derived from this geological formation. It is the case of Cluses, Clusaz, It Cluse-and-Mijoux,…
