Closing Time (album)

Closing Time , left in 1973, is the first album of the author, type-setter and interprets Tom Waits.

The Album

A series of recoveries

Closing Time was not immediate success after its publication. A resumption of the song " Ol' 55" by the The Eagles for their album One To border later, left one year, is in 1974, made of Closing Time a better known album thereafter, but Waits indicated at the time of an interview that he had not really liked the version of Eagles. " Ice Cream Man" was also taken again by John Grim and Screamin' Jay Hawkins for its album Black Music for White People. " Martha" was also taken again by the singer Tim Buckley on its album Sefronia. Sarah McLachlan took again " Ol' 55" in its album Freedom Sessions in 1994 and can be heard in the sound screen of Boys one the Side. The song was again taken again a few years later in 1999 by K' S Choice in Extra cocoon - All access.

Songs

The majority of the songs are stroll with the piano or the guitar. Waits tells there romantic situations, sometimes sad sometimes merry. One finds there more sentimental words in spite of the presence of " Virginia Avenue" who tells misfortunes of a drunkard, kind of history which will be increasingly present in the following albums. The album finishes with the part titrates, " Closing Time" , an instrumental part.
