Closed of the marquis
The Clos of the Marquis is a mark of Vin French.
History
The mark Clos of the Marquis was created at the end of the 19th century by Theophilus Skawinski, administrator of the Tired Castle Boxes, great-great-grandfather of the current administrator, Jean-Hubert Delon.Forms of brokers attest of his regular use at dawn 20th century.
This mark finds its origin in small the " Clos" contiguous to the Castle Léoville, at the time residence of the marquis de Las Boxes, located at the entry of the borough of Saint-Julien, on the right while coming from Beychevelle and in direction of Pauillac.
At the time, the creation of this mark made it possible to support the level of quality of the high-class wine of Léoville of the marquis de Las Boxes. It was to some extent, an anticipation of the concept of Second wine nearly one century later as from the years 1980.
For a long time, either because one was less demanding as for the quality of the high-class wine, or consequently of too young plantations of vines to produir wines sufficiently made up to enter the high-class wine, the Field of the Marquis was indeed a second wine. However, at the wire of the generations, a rigorous compartmental selection of the field of Léoville Las Boxes was installation, distinguishing: on the one hand soils of exception planted essentially in the large Field of Mow Boxes at the exit of the borough of Saint-Julien, in addition, large soils of Saint-Julien name, established in outsides and the small Field. The vines planted on large the terrois external produce the Field of the Marquis and those planted on the terrois of exception produce the high-class wine of Léoville of the marquis de Las Boxes.
Thus, the Field of the Marquis fur a long time second wine of Tired Léoville Boxes. It is now, and this since the year 1989 approximately, another wine of Mow Boxes resulting mainly from outsides, in opposition to large the Clos of Mow Boxes.
The Field of the Marquis is thus the expression of a type of soil of Saint-Julien surrounded besides of prestigious vintages, such as Pichon, Longueville, Comtesse of Lalande, Léoville Poyferre, Léoville Barton, Lagrange, Talbot.
