Clitoris

The clitoris is a body of the Female sex of which the visible part is at the top of the Petites lips; it forms a prominence from approximately 0,4 1 cm from diameter, but proves in fact being the conjunction, in-depth, of two roots of 10 cm which surround the Vagin and the Urètre. This body, as richly innervé as the nipple of the Penis at the Man, plays a similar part in the sexual Excitation.

Its form makes think of a penis which would not have reached its full growth.

Anatomy

The clitoris has a abundant Vascularisation which returns it érectile. Moreover, its very rich Innervation makes an extremely sensitive body of it. When it is stimulated, it starts an opening and a lubrication of the Vagin.

According to certain recent studies, the “bulbs of the hall” - symmetrical structure around the vagina and of the urethra - also belong to the clitoris. Of the same origin Embryo naire as the Penis, the clitoris has an identical structure: cavernous Body, spongy Body, Foreskin (or cap) and nipple. Recent research tends to still show more the similarity between these two bodies from the point of view of their anatomy and their physiology. Moreover, at the Hyena, the clitoris can take the proportions of a penis, and supplemented by Grandes lips inflated by two lubricating balls, to completely constitute a unit resembling then the sex of the male.

In the history

Hippocrates called it “the servant who invites the hosts” and thought that it was the body of the female pleasure. But also that the women had a “seed”: the cyprine, and that they were to enjoy to be pregnant. Thus with the the Middle Ages, according to these doctrines and in spite of deep “the mistrust” of the Church with respect to the carnal pleasure, the doctors recommended unexpected treatments to ensure a good fertility: to coat with scented oil a finger and to rub the button of love in a circular motion.

It is at the 16th century that the medical literature recognizes the existence of the clitoris for the first time. It will give place to quarrels: Realdo Colombo (also known under the name of Matteo Renaldo Colombo), which taught the Chirurgie with the Université of Padoue in Italy, published in 1559 a work entitled Of Re anatomica in which it describes the “seat of the female pleasure”.

Its successor with Padoue, Gabriele Falloppio (which will give its name to the Fallopian tubes) affirmed that it was the first to discover the clitoris.

At the 17th century, an anatomist Danish refuted the two declarations while advancing that the clitoris was already well-known by medicine since the 2nd century.

The function of the clitoris

The human being, pertaining to the line of Primate S, is a Mammifère. Whereas, in the animals whose Sexualité is related to the Rut, the coupling has for only function the reproduction, in certain primates, which practice sexuality without direct relationship with the reproduction of the Espèce, the sexual bringing together has two biological functions: like social relation, personal and satisfaction in love, and like sexuée reproduction. The human being is biologically a social animal.

In the mammals (including those with œstrus), the period of excitation of the female in relation to its Ovulation is accompanied by an emission of Phéromone S odorous returning its secretion vulvar attracting (the cyprine). The attraction of these phéromones having brought closer the male (sometimes by far), this one carries there its language at the same time like entry in contact with the female and at the same time like means of finish to the Accouplement. Licking the vulva, it licks the clitoris and the caused effect supports, by swelling of the bulbs of the hall, the opening of the Vagin that the male will be able to then penetrate. It is the function of the clitoris here.

Since work of Masters and Johnson, one knows that the Orgasme always utilizes the clitoris, whatever the place of the stimulation which caused it. The clitoris is thus in the center of female sexuality.

Anecdotes and developments

  • Marie Bonaparte, freudienne impassioned, had been made move the clitoris surgically so that it is more easily excited at the time of the coitus, which according to Freud was the only valid act of pleasure: it of it was however never fully satisfied. She wrote besides, under the pseudonym of A.E. Narjani, an article entitled Considerations on the anatomical causes of frigidity at the woman , in whom she explains female frigidity by a fixing clitoridienne induced by a too large distance between the clitoris and the vagina. It pressed its thesis by the measurement of the distance from the clitoris and the urethral meatus on a population of 200 women, catches randomly. About the clitoris, she will write: the men feel threatened by what would have a phallic appearance at the woman, this is why they insist that the clitoris is removed (Marie Bonaparte, " Notes on the excision" - French Review of psychoanalysis XII, 1946).
  • Burgundian Robert, surgeon assisting of Dominique-Jean Larrey, him even surgeon of Napoleon carried out several ablations of clitoris regarding it as a tumoral outgrowth benign.

  • Certaines women is made bore the cap recovering the clitoris or the clitoris itself.

  • the Excision or ablation of the clitoris is practiced nowadays in most of the African continent. He is indeed often regarded as an imperfection of divine creation, a male residue having to be except so that the woman is finished. Same manner the Circumcision or ablation of the foreskin is supposed to remove with the man the remaining female part. However, the motivations, the techniques and the parts of the female sex withdrawn differ largely according to the areas and the people. Of part of the clitoris to the total ablation of this one and small lips until others practical with joinings and poses of a ring.

  • Certaines women would be reached of a rare disease known under the name of “Syndrome of persistent genital excitation” (SEGP) or PSAS for “Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome”. This syndrome makes that these women test genital excitations with starting point regularly in an unexpected way and sometimes requiring several orgasms to amend itself.
