Clitellum

Épidermique glandular structure characteristic of a family of Annélide S, the Clitellate S (which includes/understands the Oligochète S (Lombric) and the Achète S (Sangsue)) and which generally extends on several rings (or métamères) in the former half of the animal. The clitellum secretes a mucous cocoon in which Clitellates deposit their eggs. The cocoon makes it possible to avoid dehydration and brings nutritive substances essential with the embryo. The clitellum is thus a structure essential of the adaptation of Clitellates with the terrestrial environment.
