Clinton (type of vine)

The Clinton is a Cépage used on the Versant S Southerners of the Massif Central, in particular in Lozere, in the Gard, the North of the Herault or the Aveyron. More generally, Clinton is associated with the the Cevennes. It is one of the American Cépages imported into France at the 19th century because they resisted the Phylloxera.

Clinton is also the name given to the Vin produces by this type of vine (sometimes associated with juices coming from Treilles or with other local type of vines, like the Isabelle). The wine of Clinton is a wine slightly alcoholic (often less than 10 degrees), with drinking very young person because it is preserved badly. Often sour, slightly semi-sparkling, the old ones had as a habit to drink this wine by adding sugar or lemonade. It is also used to make " chabrot" , by pouring an minor amount of wine in its soup plate.

Today the production of Clinton almost disappeared but of the " néo-cévenols" test redynamiser the culture of this type of vine, in particular by producing fruit juices.
