Climens castle
The castle Climens , is a wine field of 30 ha located at Barsac in the Gironde. In AOC Barsac, it is classified first great wine in the official Classification of the wines of Bordeaux of 1855.
History of the field
The family Roborel de Climens, heiress of the grounds since the 16th century develops the culture of the vine as of the beginning. It is under the direction of Éloi Lacoste that Climens is classified great first vintage in 1855, before becoming property of the family Gounouilhou in 1880 and this during nearly one century. Lucien Lurton, great landowner in the Of Bordeaux, acquires in 1971 the Climens castle to diversify in the Sauternes, and will transmit the control of the property to his/her children in 1992. Bérénice Lurton, majority shareholder directs the property since 1993.
The soil
The vineyard of Climens of a surface of 30 ha only one holding, is on a ground made up of argillaceous red sands on a calcareous base. Encépagement is at 100% in Sémillon (what constitutes one of rare the vineyard monocepage of the area), with a density of 6600 pieds/ha for an Middle Age of the 35 year old vines.
Wine
Climens produces only one liqueur-like white wine. The outputs of Climens are particularly low, with an average of 7 hl/ha, even 4 hl/ha in the difficult years, making it possible to maintain a quality and a concentration exceptional.The Climens castle also produces a second wine the cypress of Climens .
