Climate of Charente

The department of the Charente has a oceanic Climat more perceptible in its 2/3 west of Cognac until Angouleme. It changes in oceanic climate degraded while going towards the east, towards the buttresses of the Massif Central, in the Confolentais where the winter the cold is marked more.

The departmental center of Weather-France is with Cognac.

Temperature

The annual average of the temperatures on the whole of the department is of 12 degrees. January is the coldest month with an average of 5 degrees and July and hottest August with an average of approximately 20 degrees.

Charente Limousine is the coldest area with an annual average of the temperatures of 11,4 degrees.

Precipitations

The annual average of precipitations for the department is of 860 Misters. The winters are fresh and rainy. It snows almost each winter but usually in a short and moderate way. The pluviometry which oscillates between 83 and 96 mm in December and in January decreases in summer to be on average by 47 mm in July and August. Because the summers are dry and relatively heats, marked by storms, often violent one, with an intense electric activity and strong rains.

Charente Limousine is the area most sprinkled with precipitations exceeding the 900 mm/an whereas in cognaçais the office plurality annual of precipitation is only of 790 Misters.

Wind

The dominant winds come either from the south-western sectors or of the North-West.

The storms with gusts reaching or exceeding 100km/heures are frequent in the west of the department.
