Clifton is a series of Cartoon which bears the name of its main character.

The authors of Robin Dubois and of Léonard , Turk (for the drawing) and De Groot (for the scenario) take again the adventures of Clifton, created by Raymond Macherot, in 1959 until in 1983. They will draw nine episodes of them before Bédu does not take again the torch of draftsman. Greg took part in 2 volumes.

Legendary British phlegm and English manners are employed by the two friends. Miss Partridge, her servant, is of all the albums, and the principal inspector of Scotland Yard John Haig returns in a recurring way.

Clifton is a series at side mainly humorous (especially for the period Turk/De Groot, more known for their series Léonard ), with the round drawing of Turk and the often fine dialogs of De Groot.

Synopsis

Harold Clifton is a detective amateur, former colonel of Scotland Yard. Today with the retirement, it shares its time between its leisures, and the investigations that one proposes to him. They are either private individuals, or of his former colleagues of Scotland Yard. Of course, nothing is simple and colonel Clifton must face very perilous situations. But it is always left there.

Characters

  • Harold Clifton : Hero of the series, he is a former colonel of Scotland Yard, today with the retirement. Its leisures are mainly the collection of rings of cigars, and the investigations. Under the feather of the duet Turk-With Groot, it seems to be a crossing between Léonard and the sheriff Fritz Alwill, two of the most famous characters of the duet. Like the first, it is sharp and intelligent, and like the second it is unceasingly confronted with the benevolence sometimes invading Miss Partridge, his cleaning lady obsessed by the order. England obliges, Clifton resembles vestimentairement, in certain adventures, with Sherlock Holmes, and like him, he always arrives to his goal but while often coming very close to death.

  • Miss Partridge : Cleaning lady of colonel Clifton. The amateurs of Robin Dubois and of Léonard will recognize in it a fusion of Cunégonde and Mathurine. It cannot conceive to leave the house if there is household to make, and this same if shadies can come to regulate accounts with Clifton. Benevolent and maternal, she given that recalls the colonel to the order when this one leaves to face gangsters without taking his jacket or its scarf with the risk to catch cold, for her that the colonel always neutralizes the gangsters and the killers, while the cold, it is less obvious. Obsessed by the order, it worries more state of cleanliness about the accessories of the colonel than of him.

  • John Haig : Police chief at Scotland Yard. By certain regards, he recalls Basile, the disciple of Léonard: simpleton, slow to include/understand, awkward.

  • Lieutenant Strawberry : Policeman which likes to tease Clifton and to put fines to him.
