History

The known history of Clermont-le-Fort begins towards the An millet, time when the first Seigneur S, the “CLARMONT”, settled there, taking the name even of their Seigneurie. But the document concerning at that time is alas rare and fragmentary. It is with the XIVe century that the ISALGUIER were established in Clermont by the marriage of Pierre Isalguier with Jeanne de Montaut who brought to him in dowry the share of seigniory that its family had in this place. The first act of civil administration signed of its name with Clermont is dated November 20th 1370, and it is in 1469 that the act of infeodation of the fort by Odet Isalguier was made out. In 1564, the seigniory returned to Jacques of ROCHECHOUART by his marriage with Marie Isalguier, then widowed without child. She remained in the family until in 1786, year when Pierre of BUISSON-BEAUTEVILLE became owner about it. It was the last lord of Clermont. Each Dynastie seigneuriale had its clean Armoiries, and thus Clermont-le-Fort became, during the centuries, a village very Blason born.

In. Clermont-le-Fort, the simple walkers will be able to profit from a splendid site, and the art lovers and “history will be able to dream with the past. It is here that the Archéologue J.B. VALLEY GUTTER made very interesting Fouille S thus contributing to prove by its dëcouvertes the existence of the fossil man , as it is registered on the Stèle which is devoted to him to the hollow with the small valley of the INFERNET. It is also possible to leave to research the vestiges Gallo-Roman S which abound on the commune, or more simply to look at the Motte castrale, called wrongly " Tumulus" , and to recreate by the thought the Medieval Turn of guet E which crowned it. It remains still much of curiosities to announce, would be this only these various CROSSES of the ROGATIONS, witnesses of a country past. But let us leave with each one the pleasure of the discovery.
