Clerical Fascism

The clerical Fascism is a term appeared in the years 1920, to indicate the relations between Italian Fascism and the Église. It indicates an ideology mixing the economic and political doctrines with the Fascisme with the Théologie or the religious traditions. Several organizations and movements were described as " fascists-cléricaux" , in particular of the religious associations giving their support for Fascism, but also of the fascistic modes making play a big role with the Clergy (Getúlio Vargas, António de Oliveira Salazar,…).

The term of “catholic Intégralisme” is sometimes used like synonym of “catholic clerical Fascism”, although the catholic integralism knows points of divergences with Fascism.

This concept was developed more recently by academics like Hugh Trevor-Roper, within the framework of a construction of a Typologie of Fascism, making the distinction between clerical Fascism and of the types of more radical Fascisms, like the Nazisme.
