Claypool
Leslie Edward Claypool , known as Claypool, is a Bassiste Funk rock'n'roll and singer, born the September 29th 1963 in Richmond, in California.
Musical childhood and beginnings
Born in a recomposed family, he listened to mainly the album Abbey road of the Beatles. He hesitated long enough before choosing the low like instrument. Kirk Hammett, future guitarist of Metallica, made him discover Jimi Hendrix with the college. He was auditioned thereafter besides by the group to replace Cliff Burton.
He meets Mark Biedermann, guitarist who founds with him the group Blind Illusion , group of metal-progressive. It is at that time that he discovers the group Rush, which lets to him foresee the extent from what remains to him to be learned. He decides to play from now on of low with three fingers (instead of two usually) and in slap, which gives its particular style.
He takes part in various groups, jazz, swing in the balls of the college, disco music.
At 19 years, in 1982, it joined the Tommy Crank Band , trained musicians all much more experienced than him. It learns how there to play of the Blues and R&B, as well as the pieces of James Brown.
Primus
Starting from 1984, it auditions to take part in many groups and to place the many pieces which it wrote, but either the groups are not appropriate to him, or it is too timid to sing.
In 1986, it was presented to the hearings organized by Metallica following the death of their bass player Cliff Burton, but it was refused.
A former friend, Todd Huth invites it to form a group, Primate , which becomes Primus thereafter. The group meets a local success, until in 1988, where Todd Huth leaves the group to found a family. Claypool turns over in the group Blind Illusion, with which it records The Sane Asylum . It there discharges Larry Lalonde, and remelts Primus with Tim Alexander with the battery. Primus was acquired the least miserly reputation of the most humorous group and of slap of the history of the rock'n'roll. “Shake baby. ” Since, Primus left ten eccentric albums, changed beater and recovered Tim Alexander. A DVD of all their clips: Animals Should Not Try To Act Like People left in 2003.
Its style of play
Claypool has a completely single style of play, based on the play with three fingers and in particular on the Slap and the Tapping endiablés on Fretless, with the result that the low one is the instrument headlight of the group.
