Clayes-under-Wood

Clayes-under-Wood is a common department of the Yvelines, in the area Île-de-France, in France, located at approximately 14 km to the west of Versailles and at 30 km in the west of Paris.

The inhabitants are called the Clétiens .

Geography

The commune of Clayes-under-Wood is located at the south-west of the Plaine of Versailles, with the edge of the Forêt of Wood-in Arcy. The commune is very urbanized, primarily in suburban habitat, except for its southern part covered by part of the forest.

It is bordering on Chavenay in north, of Villepreux in the North-East, Wood-with Arcy in the south-eastern east, of Elancourt in the south, on approximately 700 Mr., and of Plaisir in the south-western west.

The commune is irrigated by Ru Maldroit, tributary of the Mauldre. It is crossed of is in west by the Aqueduc of Avre which is a buried work.

It is served by the secondary road 11 which connects Versailles, in the east, Plaisir, the west. The secondary road 98 makes it possible, starting from D11, to join Saint-Name-the-Bretèche and Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer towards the nord.
For the service road the SNCF, the commune has the stations of Villepreux - Clayes and of Plaisir - Clayes on the suburban line Paris-Montparnasse - Dreux via Pleasure-Oil cake.

History

“Clayes” would come from a name of origin Norman or Celte, cloi , fence or tray. The common one added “underwood” to its name on July 27th 1931.

On the plate in the south of the commune are Rigole S of the 17th century having been used to feed water Versailles.

Small village until the beginning of the 20th century, the arrival of the Train made develop Clayes-under-Wood with the construction of Lotissement S.

  • Saint Martin's day Church: its origin goes back to the 11th century.

  • Castle: Castle X built in Clayes, it remains in the park of Diane two surmounted towers of a skylight, vestiges of the castle of the 19th century of the family Delaborne and a main building, sheltering the public library, remains castle built at the 14th century.
  • a Plane tree 450 years, known as “Tree of Diane”, is classified historic building. It would have been planted around 1556, by (for?) the favorite one of Henri II of France, Diane of Poitiers.

Economy

Clayes-under-Wood, as the majority of the cities of the Ile-de-France include/understand many companies, installed in five industrial and commercial parks. Most important is consisted a center Bull (Data-processing).
