Claudius-Small Eugene is a politician French, born on May 22nd, 1907 with Angers and deceased on October 24th, 1989. It took part in many governments of IVe République and was the intiator of the urban project of Firminy - Green
Biography
Wire of railwayman, he attends the elementary school of his birthplace, then becomes apprentice and made his turn of France of companion craftsman. He works at a cabinetmaker in Paris then within MOVABLE Company RAMBAULT in Angers. He follows courses which enable him to become professor of drawing. Of anarchistic temperament, it briefly militates in libertarian mobility. It also animates a local union CGTU then adheres to the Sillon after a meeting with Marc Sangnier.It enters the Résistance under the pseudonym of Claudius. In 1942, it belongs to the steering committee of the Franc-tireurs and partisans and in 1943 was one of the founding members of CNR where it represents the WALL (Plain Movements of Resistance). It leaves France to join London then Algiers where it is delegated to the provisional Consultative Assembly. Of return to Paris, it chairs the Liberation movement main road.
It is made Compagnon of the Release, is decorated with the Military Cross and the Légion of honor.
Political career
Appointed elected official of the the Loire to the first and the second constituent National Assembly, then with the National Assembly of 1946 with 1955 under the label UDSR.
During IVe and of Ve republic, Claudius-Small, which considered that the policy was a combat for “those which do not have anything material” is one of the figures of a modernistic and social centrism. Named Minister for the rebuilding and town planning on September 11th, 1948, it follows a vast policy of equipment and planning in France of after war which must repair the damage of the conflict and face a shortage of residences without precedent.

He is then Minister for Labor and the Social security of the June 19th to the September 3rd 1954 in the Gouvernement Pierre Mendès France before assuming the interim of the ministry for the Housing of the August 14th to the September 3rd 1954. He resigns after the rejection of CED.
With the ministry for Housing, it files in relative bills with the acquisition of dwellings and the industrial plant, the procedure of coding of the legislative texts concerning the Urbanisme and the habitat. He fights against the slums.
Beaten with the elections of 1956, it finds its seat with the National Assembly of 1958 with 1962, then of 1967 with 1978 under various center labels.
Of its creation in 1956 with 1977, it directs the Sonacotra, National company of construction for the workers (Sonacotral, National company of construction for the Algerian workers until the agreements of Evian of 1962) principal manager of migrant workers' home in France.
Firminy-green
