Claude Roberjot

Claude Roberjot , born with Mâcon, on April 2nd 1752, assassinated close to Rastadt, on April 28th 1799, appointed temporary of Saône-et-Loire to the national Convention.

Wire of Jean-Baptiste Roberjot, expert, and of Anne Garnier, it entered the orders and was named cleaned of Saint-Pierre de Mâcon, then of Saint-Vérand.

Partisan of the Revolution, it was named administrator of the district of Mâcon in 1790, lent the ecclesiastical oath and was reinstated like priest of Saint-Pierre in May 1791.

In September 1792, it was elected fifth temporary deputy on six of Saône-et-Loire to national Convention, and, on December 8th, became president of the administration of the department.

In October 1793, Roberjot, renonça with the ecclesiastical functions, Maria, and was allowed to sit at Convention, the 26 brumaire year II (November 16th, 1793), to replace Carra, guillotine with the Girondins, the 10 brumaire year II (October 31st, 1793).

Sent by decree of the 4 nivôse year III (December 24th 1794) on mission to the armies of North and Sambre-and-Meuse, it announced with Convention the final conquest of Holland, and worked to organize the republican mode there. Of return to Patis, in floréal year III (April 1795), it intervened in favor of the meeting of Belgium in France, and, on October 7th, 1795, entered to the Comité of general security.

The 24 vendémiaire year IV, he was elected appointed Saône-et-Loire with the Conseil of the Five hundred. In 1797, it was named ambassador plenipotentiary close to the Hanseatic cities, then with $the Hague, before being deputy with the Congrès of Rastadt (July 18th 1798). It took a big part with the deliberations of the Congress, which had lasted for six months already, when the defeats of Jourdan made it possible Austria to break the negotiations. April 25th 1799, three plenipotentiary French decided to leave and claimed an escort which was refused to them. They left the castle, the 28, at the evening, in five cars, when, a little further, they were attacked by a troop of hussards Austrian. Roberjot and Antoine Bonnier d' Alco were assassinated and Jean Debry very seriously wounded.

The Council decided that until its replacement its name would be proclaimed solemnly, with each roll-call, that this call the president would answer: “ That the blood of the assassinated French ministers with Rastadt falls down on the house of Austria! ” and that the place of the Roberjot representative would be occupied by a covered costume of a black crèpe. A funeral festival was issued in its honor and Garat pronounced its funeral oration.
