Claude Nicolet

Claude Nicolet , born the September 15th 1930 with Marseilles, is a historian French, specialist in the ancient Rome, institutions and political ideas.

Former student of the National university, aggregate of history and member of the French School of Rome of 1957 to 1959, he is professor of old story at the universities of Tunis, of Caen, then of Paris-I, and highly skilled director of studies since 1997 with the practical École of the high studies. Elected official member of the Academy of the inscriptions and the humanities in 1986, he was director of the French Ecole of Rome of 1992 to 1995.

He made a short political career as a member of the cabinet of Pierre Mendès France, in 1956, in the line of his radical opinions. He was secretary, then editor association, of the Cahiers of the Republic , and operations manager with the cabinet of Jean-Pierre Chevènement, between 1984 and 2002, on civic education.
