Claude Lorius
Claude Lorius , born in 1932 with Besancon, is a French glaciologist recognized for his studies of the composition of gas inclusions of the polar ices indicating the old climates of the ground (Paléoclimat). It made its career with the CNRS, of which it receives the Gold medal, in 2002, with Jean Jouzel.
He is currently research director émérit at CNRS after having been director of the laboratory of glaciology and geophysics of the environment of Grenoble of 1983 to 1988. He took part in more than twenty polar forwardings in the years 1960 and 1970, mainly in the Antarctic within the framework of the French and international polar missions, in particular with Vostok. Its contributions were essential in the comprehension of the evolution of the climates of the ground, thanks to its studies on the composition of the bubbles of air entrapped in the icicles.
