Claude François Jouffroy d\' Abbans
The Marquis Claude François Jouffroy d' Abbans is a naval architect, Engineer and Industriel Franc Comtois French born with Rock-on-Kidney (Champagne) in 1751, died with Paris in 1832, manufacturer of the first steamers prototype then of line.
Biography

Hardly 100 years after the invention of the principle of the Steam engine by Denis Papin in 1687 and full French revolution, he was the manufacturer and adjuster in several stages, of the first prototypes of Steamer with side Paddle wheel (back?) (boat type on the the Mississippi) then boats of regular line
- the Marquis de Jouffroy d' Abbans, French engineer, invents the Steamship, a vessel propelled to the vapor: the idea would have been inspired to him by the sight of the galères since its cell of the Holy-Marguerite island (it had been made to prisoner of 1772 to 1773 following a competition in love the opponent with the Count d' Artois)

1778 it builds the Palmipède which manages to sail successfully for the first time of the history of navigation on the Doubs, on the basin of Gondé with Balsam-the-Ladies

In 1783 it builds the Pyroscaphe (46 m length, 4,6 m broad, side Paddle wheel) which thanks to new blades makes a spectacular public demonstration by going up the the Saone close to Mâcon in Burgundy during approximately fifteen minutes, before the machine breaks down
- 1793 on July 15th, it carries out a new test with the steamship improved on the the Saone with Lyon during fifteen minutes, Archbishop's palace of Lyon (located at the time beside the cathedral) in the island Barbe

on August 20th 1816 takes place launching on the the Seine with Bercy with Paris of the Charles-Philippe , steamer built by the shipyards Jouffroy d' Abbans to serve in regular line the river way between Paris and Montereau in Île-de-France

It inaugurated the era of the River navigation with vapor which transported thousands of Voyageur S and million tons of Marchandise S during all the XIXe century before being replaced by the more powerful Steam train starting from 1840.

1832 the July 18th, it dies of the Choléra to the Hôtel of the Invalids to Paris at the 81 years age
