Claude Duret

Claude Duret is a judge, born with Moulins towards 1570 and died the September 17th 1611. He is a large friend of Olivier de Serres (1539-1619).

Of a prestigious family of doctor, his father is Louis Duret (1527-1586). One knows of Claude Duret several works of which Discours of the truth of the causes and effects of the declines, changes, changes, conversions and ruins of monarchies, empires, kingdoms and republics… (Paris, 1595), Speech of the Truth of the Causes and effects of the declines, changes etc of Monarchies, Empires and Republics; according to the opinion of former and modern mathematicians, Astrologers, magi, etc (Lyon, 1595), admirable History of the plants and grasses esmerveillables and miraculous in kind… (Paris, 1605) and Thrésor (sic) of the history of the languages of cest universe, containing the origins, beauties… declines, changes… and ruins of the languages Hebraic, chananéenne… etc, the languages of the animals and birds (Coligny, 1613).

Its admirable History of the plants , decorated engraving on wood, makes the collection of all the marvellous facts brought back by the voyages. Thus, it begin with the description of the Tree of life of the terrestrial Paradise, it gives even an illustration of it. It also evokes a strange tree from which the sheets, fallen with ground, flee using small legs.
