Claude Dallemagne
Claude of Germany , alias Dallemagne (born with Peyrieu in Bugey in 1754 - 1813), was a Général French.
Its family
The family of Germany is originating in Provence, according to family traditions however not confirmed. At the 16th century, one of its branches then set in Bugey, Savoyard. It is of this branch that is resulting Claude of Germany. He was born in 1754 with Peyrieu, close to Belley and grows in Commanderie d' Accoyeux before continuing studies with the college of Belley. In 1773, after the death of his/her father, it suddenly decides to engage and joined the regiment of Hainaut then stationed to Embrun and Montdauphin. On his arrival, Claude of Germany is built-in the company of Escorbiac. According to the use, it is necessary for him to choose a nickname. Our young recruit then takes the name of war of Dallemagne (SHAT 1YC394), historical origin of the orthographical variation of the family patronym.
Its career
With a battalion of its regiment, it takes share with the war of American independence. Embarked in 1777 with Toulon on the squadron of Estaing, it fights with the Dominique, Saint-Vincent and takes part in the catch of the Grenade. With Holy Lucie, it is wounded of a shot to the right knee. It is with the seat of Saint Christophe and Savannah.Of return in France, it follows its regiment to Grenoble, Sarrelouis and Montmédy. This unit forms part in 1790 troops indicated to repress the mutinés regiments of Nancy and placed under the orders of the general marquis de Bouillé. This last, which had probably already noticed Dallemagne in America, appoints it second lieutenant of pomegranates the September 15th 1791 because of its exemplary control in this business, and makes him give the cross of Saint-Louis the June 10th 1792.
Its regiment is then integrated into the 99e half-brigade sent to the armed with Italy. Claude of Germany, promoted Captain, illustrates himself with the Bataille of the Winch where it is wounded. Then it takes part in the Siège of Toulon in 1793. It is named Brigadier general.
Of return in Italy, it is in charge of the catch of the collar with Tends (1794) then of its guard. In 1796, it accompanies Bonaparte, new commander-in-chief, in his countryside against the Autrichiens. It is wounded with the Passage of Po and with that of the Adda, the victory with the decided battles of Lodi and deserved to be quoted with praise in the reports/ratios of Napoleon Bonaparte, with the Siège of Mantoue and the Bataille of Lonato. “ success was some dubious time, ” says the general-in-chief while speaking about this last action, “ but I was quiet, the brave woman 32e half-brigade, ordered by Dallemagne, was there. ”
Major general in August 1796, it is named by Bonaparte governor of the Lombardy: its qualities of probity and authority as its talents of organizer make wonder there.
Its health being deteriorated, it profits from a leave of a few months to rest in Belley. Then it is affected with the army of England in 1798. The Directory having, as it is known, abandoned the idea of an attack against the English, the general is recalled by Berthier in Italy while Bonaparte unloads in Egypt. It thus takes part in the conquest of Rome, accompanied by plunderings and exactions such as they revolted victorious and overcome. It is in this context that the Dallemagne general is indicated by the troop to replace Masséna as governor of Rome. Once more, in this delicate position, it showed its qualities of firmness and justice.
It is then called with the Armée with Mainz where it successfully leads the difficult seat of the place of Ehrenbreitstein (Coblentz), key of the Germany.
At 45 years, it obtains finally a retirement that it solicited for a long time because of its health condition. But hardly it returned in Belley, which it is named with the legislative Body of which he becomes vice-president in 1805, then questeur year year XI. He is commander of the Légion of honor in year XII.
In 1807 the Dallemagne general receives the cross of commander of the Ordre of the iron Crown, it is given in activity to the Large army to Berlin; in March 1809 it orders the 23e military division with Wesel, then the 1e division of the Armée with Holland which was opposed to the English troops ordered by Lord Chatam. He still answered in this difficult circumstance the confidence of the Emperor.
He definitively withdraws service in 1810, before being again named with the Legislative Body in 1812. Created baron of the Empire in 1813, it dies exhausted the same year during a last displacement of Paris in Belley. Deceased with Nemours, it is buried there.
Its name is reproduced on the Triumphal arch of the Star in Paris.

- Leon of Germany (alias Dallemagne) (1837 - 1907) painter landscape designer of the Bresse and Bugey, raises of Viot and French, exposed to the Living room of Paris of 1865 to 1872. Some of these fabrics are with the museums of Borough in Bresse or Dijon.

Family of Germany, Provence
- Nicolas Marc Antoine of the Farmhouse, baron d' Allemagne . It was made famous during the wars of religion as well for its military talents as by its cruelty; it seized Frejus in 1585. The general catholic, Mr. de Vins, put the seat in front of the castle of Germany, where the baroness was only with her garrison. It resisted 16 days and thus gave to her husband time to run with the Protestant army reinforced with that of Lesdiguières, her cousin. Of besieging, the catholic army was besieged and taken between two fires. - Alexandre of the Farmhouse of Germany , having had a quarrel in 1612 with Year of Forbin, a duel followed where the adversaries, backs with back, a bound arm, were stabbed mutually while being turned over. The goods of the two duellists were seized by the King, but the Queen Regent gave those of Alexandre to her brother Jean Louis who gave them to his Gabrielle niece of the Farmhouse that the confiscation ruined. - Jean Louis, baron d' Allemagne , being attached to the service of the duke of Savoy, was general of the galères of this prince. - Joseph François de Varages, baron d' Allemagne (1760-1822), officer of the regiment of Angoumois, aide-de-camp of the general of Villeneuve, it is wounded in Toulon by defending the city in 1793.
