Claude Cohen-Tannoudji

Claude Cohen-Tannoudji , born on April 1st 1933 with Constantine (Algeria), is a Physicien French.

He works with the Laboratoire Kastler-Brossel of the National university to Paris, where he had been student. In 1973, it is named full professor of the pulpit of atomic and molecular physics to the Collège de France where it teaches until in 2003.

With Steven Chu and William Daniel Philips, it receives the Nobel Prize of Physics in 1997 for its work on the deceleration of the atoms using laser, after having received in 1996 the Gold medal of CNRS.

He is also the author of the book of reference in French (original version) on the Quantum physics. He published moreover with Jacques Dupont-Rock and Gilbert Grynberg two books on the quantum optic: Photons and atoms , and Process of interaction between photons and atoms . These books also exist in English edition.

Humanistic, it in particular signed, with other prizes winner of the Nobel Prize, a call asking that a delegation of the Committee of the rights of the child of UNO returns visit to a child Tibetan under house arrest since 1995 in China, Gendhun Choekyi Nyima, recognized like 11th Panchen LAMA by the 14th Dalaï Lama, Tenzin Gyatso.

It has three children: Alain, Joelle and Michel. It has a brother who is also physicist, Gilles Cohen-Tannoudji (1938-)
