Claude Chastillon
Claude Chastillon was an architect, an engineer and a Topographe with the service of the king de France Henri IV. Born in 1559 or 1560 with Trawl-net-in-Champagne, he died on April 27th, 1616.
He became topographer of the king in 1592. Three years later, it accepted the title of royal engineer.
The architect
From 1605, it worked as architect at the side of Jacques II Androuet of the Hoop for the design of the Royale place, current Place from the Vosges in Paris.It is missionné for the reconstruction project of a bridge with Rouen to cross the the Seine. A drawing original color, and gone back to 1608, 8 meters length precedes the details of this work.
Its work
In 1612, it draws the “Large College roial basti in Paris of the Reign of Henri the Large one, 4th of the name, roy of France and Navarre”, future Collège de France.The first posthumous edition of its work appears in 1641. It is entitled French Topographie . It consists of 534 Gravure S representing “cities, boroughs, castles, country cottages, handing-over and vestiges of the antiquity of the kingdom of France.”
