Claude Carra of Saint-Cyr military school

Claude Carra of Saint-Cyr military school , Major general French, born with Lyon the December 17th 1756.

Entered strong young person the Regiment of infantry of Bourbonnais, it made with this body the Guerres of the independence of America. Returned to France in 1784, the credit of which he enjoyed near the general Aubert Bayet got him a fast advance.

Named Brigadier general in year II, it contributed to the Pacification of the Vendée.

Recalled to Paris, it was employed with the Ministry for the war.

In 1796, it accompanied its guard with the embassy by Constantinople, and remained charged, after six months, of the businesses of the Republic close to the Othoman Porte.

In 1798, he married the widow of Dubayet, took again the military career, seized the town of Deux-Ponts, announced himself to Freiburg, that he took, with Marengo and Hohenlinden.

Major general after the rupture of the Treated of Amiens, it ordered, in 1805, the occupying army in the Royaume of Naples, and made 6.000 Austrian prisoners at the time of the retirement of the Archiduc Charles.

With Eylau, where it was distinguished, it obtained the title of large officer of the Légion of honor. It was named Count of the Empire in 1808, and governor of Dresden. It was in the Provinces illyriennes in 1812, when Napoleon i recalled it to give him the 32e military division (Hamburg), that it gave up the following year. In 1814, the Emperor charged it with the defense of Valencian and Condé.

Louis XVIII named it Chevalier of Saint-Louis and governor of the French Guiana. Admitted with the retirement in 1824, it died in Vailly-sur-Aisne, the January 5th 1834.
