Claude-Michel Schönberg

Claude-Michel Schönberg (born the July 6th 1944 with Valves) is a producer, actor, singer, type-setter of popular songs and musical comedies. It is especially known for its collaborations with the librettist Alain Boublil on the musical comedies:

  • the French revolution (1973)
  • the Poor wretches (1980)
  • Miss Saigon (1991)
  • Martin Guerre (1996)
  • The Pirates Queen (2006)
  • Marguerite (envisaged for 2008)

Schönberg began its career as a pianist singer in the " group; Vénètes". It is then engaged by Pathé Marconi as artistic director for in particular Variations, Triangle, Wallace Collection, Régine, Dani, Franck Pourcel etc…

It has Co-writing with Raymond Jeannot the music of the rock opera the French revolution , in 1973, and also played the part of the king Louis XVI on scene this year there, with the Sport hall of bets

In 1974 he wrote the music and the words of the song “the First Step”, which was number 1 in France with more than 1 million sold specimens. “The First Step” was produced by Franck Pourcel. This song would have been written for that which will become his wife Béatrice Schönberg, born Szabo.

Schönberg will record 6 albums, produced by Franck Pourcel, in whom he sings his own songs. In 1978 it is devoted to the musical comedy, Schönberg and Boublil finds the idea of then the Poor wretches . Since then he works on musical comedies. Its music is known for its melody harmonies.

At the end of the Seventies, it will also patricipera with the realization of several recordings of the Band with Basile, whose title " celebrates it; The chenille".

Written with Boublil, The Pirates Queen , the history of an Irish pirate of the 16th century, Grace O' Malley, then was created with Chicago in Cadillac Palace Theater on October 3rd, 2006; this musical comedy was then played Hilton Theater of Broadway starting from April 5th, 2007

The last project of Boublil and Schönberg is Marguerite , including music of Michel Legrand and words of Herbert Kretzmer. Inspired by the Lady with the camellias of Alexandre Dumas wire and located during the Second world war in occupied Paris, this musical comedy tells the history of the mistress of a German officer of high ranking which attracts the love of a pianist twice younger than it. Marguerite must be created on May 6th, 2008 in Royal Haymarket Theater with London.
