Claude-Godefroi Coquart

Claude-Godefroi Coquart (1706-1765) is a Jesuit, a missionary and a Canadian priest

Born with Melun in the Seine-Lower in France on February 20th, 1706, entered to the Jesuits to Paris in 1726 and was ordered about 1739. Third year of Probation in Rouen (1739-1740), it arrives at Quebec en1740-1741. He was initially chaplain of the explorer Vérendrye until the Lac Winnipeg in Manitoba (1741-1744).

Missionary with Michillimakinac (1744-1745); in Quebec (1745-1746); cleaned of Tadoussac with service road of all the area of the lake Midsummer's Day, of Charlevoix and the Saguenay (1746-1757), it built a vault with Tadoussac in 1757; it is in Quebec of 1757 to 1759.

During the conquest, it tries C in vain to be fixed at the Abénaquis of Acadie. Priest of Chicoutimi with service road of the area of the lake Midsummer's Day, of Charlevoix and Saguenay (1760-1765). He is the author of a grammar and a dictionary abénaquis published in France.

He is deceased in Chicoutimi, on July 4th, 1765. He was buried initially in Chicoutimi, then in Tadoussac.
