Claude-Antoine Prior-Duvernois

Claude-Antoine Prior-Duvernois says “Prior of Coast-in Or”, born the September 22nd 1763 with Auxonne (Coast-with Or), dead the August 11th 1832 with Dijon, was an officer of the genious. It had been made known by important scientific work before the Revolution. Elected official appointed with the legislative Parliament (1791), it appeared little with the platform and worked much in the committees. Re-elected appointed with the national Convention by the department of Coast-in Or (1792). As a representative on mission, it made rounds of inspection technical in the ports, from Lorient to Dunkirk. It was in Caen at the time of the proscription of the Girondins (June 2nd, 1793) and was retained like hostage. The federalistic rout of Vernon returned freedom to him.

As of its return to Paris, he became member of the Comité of public hello (1793) after Louis-Antoine-Leon Saint-Just he was the youngest member of this Committee. He could surround himself by an elite of scientists and technicians. In close cooperation with Lazare Carnot, it was devoted entirely to the organization of manufacture of war: *armements, hospital and recovery of salpetre for the manufacture of the gunpowder.

It assisted, silent, to the meetings of the Committee of public hello, the glance fixed on Lazare Carnot, and followed blindness its opinions. Thus, also, the death warrant of Georges Danton signed to him.

In May 1795, it escaped from accuracy from the arrest. It made adopt the unification of the metric system.

Saved by the Thermidoriens, he was re-elected with the Conseil of the Five hundred and returned in the private life after the 18 brumaire year VIII (November 9th 1799). Having founded in Dijon a wallpaper manufacture, he lived peacefully by largely earning his living and died at the seventy years age.
