China
The Popular republic of China produced several types of submarines, but for a long time it remained dependant on the USSR, its Wuhan class and Ming being based on Romeo Soviet. Currently, it produces modern submarines and of entirely new design, but those (Yuan, Han, Xia…) are still with the state of prototype. And the recent purchase of twelve submarines of class Kilo (six of type 636 and six 877) in Russia shows that it is not yet self-sufficing on the matter, even if it with the will to become it.
