Classify Zumwalt
The class Zumwalt (DDG-1000) (ex-DDX, ex-DD 21) is a new category of Destroyer which must be brought into service in the United States Navy in the Années 2010.
In January 2007, two ships were ordered on the seven envisaged.
This class was conceived to be able to carry out the bombardments of terrestrial target assumed hitherto by the battleships of the Classe Iowa of the years 1940 and withdrawn from the fleet of reserve since 2006.
It is equipped for this purpose of a artillery with a range higher than 180 km.
These ships of big size (14 000 barrels, heavier than the current cruisers in service) should cost at least 2,3 billion dollars part.
This project associates the Shipyard amongst other things Ingalls de Pascagoula, with Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and BAE Systems.
