Classify 56

The Classe 56 are a series of 135 Diesel loco Co-Co in service on the network of the British railroads until 2004. Conceived for the traffic of heavy freight, they service entrance between 1976 and 1983.

The thirty first (56001-56030) were built in Romania by Electroputere, but they suffered from a bad quality of construction. The remainder was built in England by BREL with the workshops of Doncaster (56031-56115) and of Crewe (56116-56135).

The last were withdrawn from the service by EWS the March 31st 2004. Some since began again service in France to tractor draw trains of work the sites of LGV Is European. In March 2006, two of these engines, the 56045 and 56124, were rehabilitated into 56301/2 for the account of Fastline, British railway company of freight launched by the group Jarvis.
