Classification of the Library of the Congress

The classification of the Library of the Congress (in English Library off Congress Classification or LCC ) is a Classification developed and used by the Bibliothèque of the Congress. It is also used by several Bibliothèque S academics with the the United States and in the world.

Organization

The LCC is organized in classes, identified each one by a letter.

Each categogy can be specified by one or two additional letters, then by a series of figures. For example:

  • C: Auxiliary sciences of the history
    • CJ: Numismatics
      • CJ 1-4625: Coins

  • b: Philosophy, psychology, religion
  • C: Auxiliary sciences of the history
  • D: General history and history of Europe
  • E: History of America (general information and the United States)
  • F: History of America (other countries of America)
  • G: Geography, anthropology, leisures
  • H: Social sciences
  • J: Political sciences
  • K: Right
  • L: Education
  • M: Music and musicology
  • NR: Beautiful arts
  • P: Language and literature
  • Q: Sciences
  • R: Medicine
  • S: Agriculture
  • T: Technology
  • U: Military science
  • V: Naval science
  • Z: Bibliography, Information sciences and the libraries

Letters I, O, W, X and Y are not used.
