Clarisses
The Clarisses (or Order of Clarisses or Order of the Poor Ladies ) hold their name of Holy Claire of Sitted (1193 - 1253), which created this order in 1212 at the request of Saint François d' Assise.
Origins
Conquered by the ideal of poverty preached by François d' Assise, with 18 years, the Palm Sunday of 1212, having made religious profession in front of him, Claire of Sitted cut her long blond hair and revêt frieze. Joined soon by her sister Agnes, it is initiated initially with the religious life at the Bénédictines. Then, at the request of Francois, it bases the Order of the Poor Ladies on the model of the Ordre of the minor brothers (or Franciscains). It is a question thus second-order franciscain to be created. With her partners, it settles with the convent Saint-Damien of Base, pushing until heroism the love of poverty by love of the Christ. She writes the rule of sound order: moniales cloîtrées, Contemplative, banishing any personal property or collective. Many his/her friends and relationships, including her mother, join it. This new Order develops quickly. The pope Innocent IV approves the rule with Assise in August 1253, little before the death of the holy one.
Posterity
Disappointed by the softenings brought by Clarisses to their rule, Sainte Colette wanted to bring back their Order to the rigor of the rule initially laid down by holy Claire. She was confirmed in this mission by the Pape S Benoît XIII which names it Abbesse Couvent S that she will reform or found, and Martin V. She founds new monasteries, in particular in Franche-Comté, Burgundy, Bourbonnais, with the Puy. Little by little of other monasteries unite with the movement. These clarisses of strict observance is called Colettine S. Finalement, it is all the Order of Clarisses which will return gradually to the spirit of the rule of origin.
