Biography
At the 5 years age, Clara Rockmore being already a wonder of the Violon entered to the Conservatoire Rimski-Korsakov de Saint-Pétersbourg. However, it was obliged to stop because of problems of Os due to a Malnutrition.Clara Rockmore has several gifts of the nature which enabled him to play of the Thérémine with so much of brilliance. First of all, its traditional formation which brought to him an advantage compared to the other players of thérémine. Indeed, those missed basic musical knowledge, including the inventor of this instrument: Leon Theremin. Then, its Absolute pitch: very useful for this instrument which can generate a continuity of sounds to any frequency, i.e. usual notes of the harmonic tonal system, but also all the notes which can be between two Demi-ton S conventional. Lastly, its very fast control and very precis of its movements for this instrument whose proximity of the body (of the Main S) of the instrumentalist determines the height and the intensity (or nuance) of the sounds, without any physical contact. Clara Rockmore also had the advantage of working directly with Leon Theremin as of the first days of the commercial development of its instrument to the the United States. It subjected to him a great number of suggestions and draft amendments to improve the instrument, which it incorporated in the later versions.
Clara Rockmore was an unequalled virtuoso of this instrument as of the first decades of its use. Contrary to a great number of musicians who used this instrument for alarming sound effects or special Effets sound in films Fantastique S or of Science-fiction, Clara Rockmore used it for like a instrument of Classical music. Under its control, the stamp of the thérémine was close to that of the Violon, or the human voice.
