Clairefontaine is a French company of founded Papeterie in 1858 in the the Vosges with Étival-Clairefontaine.

History

It is into 1858 that Jean-Baptiste Bichelberger founds the paper mills of Clairefontaine and creates the first factory of the future group in the Vosges with Étival-Clairefontaine which it will promouvera until his death in 1877. Paul Bichelberger with Emile Champon introduce the use of wood like raw material. The first envelopes and books are then manufactured.

Of 1904 with 1914, the company grows and its manpower exceeds the 1100 people at the dawn of the First World War.

In 1919 Leon Daridan makes start again the activity and will be also the reconstructor of the factory after the Second world war.

Of 1950 with 1971 Clairefontaine knows a strong growth thanks to the modernization of its paper machines under the direction of Charles Nusse. The company also owes him its famous logo.

Today the group is directed by Jean-Marie Nusse, and the company proposes more than 3000 products. The company always manufactures itself its own paper for all its products.
